Talking About Sex
Published June 12th, 2007 in Me.I woke up this morning filled with wonder. Today’s the day. I was having the ultrasound that would tell us if our baby looks healthy and if it’s a boy or girl. My mother-in-law is visiting and was very excited to get to see the ultrasound - so it was pretty funny when she slept in later that usual.
Anyway, we loaded up M-I-L and L.A. Toddler and hightailed it to the doctor’s office. We met with a genetic counselor first since I’m going to be *gasp* over 35 when I deliver this baby. Thankfully and luckily all the blood test markers were negative. We waited for what seemed liked eons for the next appointment and finally were called in - just as L.A. Toddler needed to go to the restroom.
The neonatologist got right down to business slathering me with conduction goop and shocking the crap out of M-I-L. She was sort of quietly sitting in the corner trying to look like she’d done this before and knew what was going to happen. (Nevermind that I’d explained all this several times previously.) So we start the ultrasound and the doctor is looking around for physical markers and any abnormalities and -whew- everything looks good. Yay! I noticed that M-I-L was still sitting in the chair and asked if she could see from way over there and she replied affirmatively. I think she was fibbing a little but just then the doctor honed in on the heartbeat and out of the chair she came.
So… is L.A. Fetus a boy or girl? You tell me - check out these pics!

At least we have cut the number baby names in half!

i found out on the same day you did that i am having a girl too, and have the exact same shot. my husband found it hilarious when the ultrasound tech cheerfully announced “that’s labia” in a high pitched voice.
congrats to you and LA daddy and toddler! girls rock. =)
