Daddy’s Little Girl
Published March 2nd, 2007 in Me.For the past two-ish years LA Daddy has been forlorn that LA Toddler’s “favorite” is “Mommy.” He’s sad that she “needs me” more than she “needs” him. I keep telling him that this will change and there will be a period of years where I “won’t understand her at all” and she’ll put more trust in him… At which point, he gives me the “yeah, right?!” look.
It’s starting. Over the past couple of weeks she’s been increasingly excited to see him when we arrive home in the evening. He loves this - as he should - but isn’t realizing she’s starting the “Daddy’s Cool, Too!” phase. Wait ’til he gets a load of this…
Picture it… 8:00am… LA Toddler and I are commuting to daycare / work:
LAT: Mommy, Daddy’s proud of me. Because (long pause) because I’m a big girl and use potty now. Daddy’s proud of me because I don’t scream at you. Daddy’s proud when I don’t hit.
Me: Yes, you’re right. Those things make both of us very proud.
LAT: Daddy’s proud of me. Daddy’s proud of you, too, Mommy.
Me: Yes, and we’re proud of him, too - aren’t we?
LAT: Yea - he’s fun.
So, LA Daddy… whaddya think of that? I can see the tears streaming
