Cali is normally way ahead of people on a lot of things. But we’ve been behind on one thing — cellphone use in cars. New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and D.C. all have bans on drivers talking it up on their cells. Now, Angelinos really love to use their cellphones while they drive.

Which wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t such shitty drivers.

Today, our infamous Governator took a break from groping and degrading women to sign a bill making California the 4th state to outlaw speaking on cell phones while driving — unless the driver is using a headset or other hands-free device. Traffic is really bad enough in this city but it gets so much worse when you have tiny little women in massive SUVs swerving all over the road.

Unfortunately, it won’t take effect until 2008. And with a $20 fine, many will consider that an affordable tax to keep chatting away…
