What Shape Am I Now?
Published June 28th, 2007 in L.A. Toddler, Me, L.A. Fetus.Hi! Long time, no blog.
I won’t bore you with the details but here’s a rundown of the last two weeks. I’m working full time, my mother-in-law visited, my daughter was ill, my cat had to have a minor surgery (at a major cost!), and we just found out L.A. Toddler’s daycare might be closing (sad story - greedy organization overseeing them.)
However…I also got to go out on a date with L.A. Daddy (thanks grandma for babysitting)! AND… we found out that L.A . Fetus is healthy and she’s GIRL! Yay, sisters! I always wondered how life would have been different if I’d had a sister.
So recently we’ve been focused on finding a name for the little one - and on helping L.A. Toddler prepare for my soon-to-be limited activity level and for her sisters arrival.
But first the names.
Everything we like is on the top ten list of baby names. We named L.A. Toddler after our mothers and my grandmother and what’s the first comment we heard from a nurse at the hospital? “Oh, that’s a popular one this year, 5th one this week.” Shut up lady! Anyway… this time around will be no different I suppose. I’ve been polling friends for comments and suggestions and almost peed my pants laughing (not a difficult feat these days) when a friend replied that someone in her family had named their children so that their first initials spelled “TEAM”… that’s not the funny part. One of the kids has initials for his first name and the initials don’t stand for anything. To each his own. People probably think we’re lame for giving our girls “popular” names.
Now onto prepping the Toddler for the Baby.
L.A. Toddler’s been absolutely awesome about the whole thing. Really. She loves hugging and kissing my belly goodnight. She’s already compiled a list of books and group of toys that she’s giving to L.A. Baby. She’s on my side when it comes to the gross bodily functions that go along with pregnancy. I belched - and I mean belched in the car the other day and L.A. Toddler exclaims “Mommy, tell that baby sister to stop doing that to you!”For weeks we’ve been telling her that I’m going to look like there’s a beach ball in my belly so this morning I finish dressing and L.A. Daddy tells me I look like a zeppelin (nice, huh?!) and she disagrees, “Nooooo, it’s a beak - like a toucan!” Ah… what pregnancy does for the self-image!
So, whaddya think? Zeppelin or toucan-beak?

I think you look perfect. I love baby names, and I’m not a top 10 type of person, but to each their own. But seriously, you know of someone who named their kids initials? Like TJ and it doesn’t mean anything? Interesting. I was thinking of Jayci for a girl when my son was born (didn’t use it obviously). That’s as close as I would get to that.
1. You look FABULOUS. Just like a toucan beak.
2. Baby names. Ugh. I thought, for as long as I can remember, If I ever have a baby girl, I’ll name her Emily. I did. I had no idea everyone else was thinking the same thing.
I named my son Ethan. It was #155 on the popularity list then. It’s #3 now.
Moral? None. Just name your kids what you like! Except don’t name one Pilot Inspektor.
3. Congrats on a healthy second girl! Awesome!
I think you look fabulous! Beatiful and healthy. As for baby names, I know how you feel about popularity. We thought we were being so creative with our name and now there are like 14 kids with the same name at our gym. Oh well. Just make sure the name you like doesn’t mean something like swampland or you’ll have a lot of explaining to do to your daughter. Although I do harbor fantasies of naming a son Macleod to torture the hubby.
MacLeod (Scottish) Son of the ugly man.
Hee!
You rook fabulous, daaarrlliinnk! Beach ball, I think.
or Tikamorethny (a little daddy, a little mommy…hmmm?) gently mixed….maybe just Tika?
Ya know, Darla is a pretty unique name….
Hey there L.A. Mommy, loved the pic of toddler hugging your belly, she is really growing. I would say beach ball, don’t worry, we all know it’s only temporary anyway.
As for names you can morph them. We combined my hubby and my name and called ours “Guylie” until she was born. We didn’t peak at gender. You can morph yours and make a good girl name. Congrats on the little sister. Hope you are feeling well. Take care.
