Music for L.A. Toddler AND Me
Published December 4th, 2006 in L.A. Toddler, Entertainme.
Every day, L.A. Toddler and I drive to her daycare. And every night we drive home. We usually spend quite a long time in the car together. She’s got several CDs of kids music to listen to and I’ve heard them over and over and… over and over. Luckily, the holidays have come up and we’re listening to a lot of Christmas music. She absolutely LOVES Frosty the Snowman and Santa Baby (she calls it “Baby Santa.”)
But I know the holidays will be over soon and we’ll have to go back to the same old same old of ultra-annoying songs. I came upon a great list of albums that kids love and adults either tolerate or even actually enjoy. The list is from the Modern Moms website:
- Ralph’s World - Happy Lemons
- Laurie Berkner - Buzz Buzz
- They Might Be Giants - No!
- Sing-a-Longs & Lullabies from the film Curious George - by Jack Johnson
- Dan Zanes & Friends - Catch That Train!
I wanted to share that list (they might make good Christmas gifts for you to give!) as well as ask for suggestions.
What are some other good CD choices that both L.A. Toddler and I will appreciate?

Hi - we are big Ralph fans here, but for some of the years’ best CDs, you can check out the Fids and Kamily awards. Some are well known, others are sure to be well known soon, but they are all great!
Looks like the HTML link didn’t work in the comment …

Have you ever had the crack-up pleasure of hearing any They Might Be Giants children’s music? “No is no” is funny as … It’s about the only kid tunes I can hear without being bored to drool.
We (my little girls and I) seem to have similar tastes — the Jack Johnson album was on repeat for months in our house; Zanes is on our top ten, and Fids and Kamily rocks out holiday list, too. Other gems we like:
- The Over the Hedge soundtrack (Ben Folds music for kids!)
- Anything by Elizabeth Mitchell
Pretty much anything recommended by the folks over at smallages is great, too.
Then again, my 4 year old prefers Death Cab For Cutie…and when she was one, her favorite songs were by Andrew WK. But, of course, many Andrew WK songs are rated G, despite their speedmetal sound.
