Channeling My Mother

The My sweet, cute, lovable daughter has an eerie ability. She’s capable of channeling my mother, who passed away several years ago (I miss you, Mom!) L.A. Daddy has noticed it, too. We can’t figure it out. Emma never had a chance to meet her so it’s not like it’s something she just… picked up, ya know?

It’s not something she says to you. It’s a look. She seems almost old-soulish and wise beyond her 2.5 years. Which is why I think it’s my mom, reaching out from some great beyond. We call it “The Carol Look.” It’s not incredibly hard to describe, but it is the exact — and I mean exact – look my mother used to give me. A look of disbelief.

It’s the look you get when you say something that Emma thinks is probably the stupidest thing she’s heard in all of her 29 months. “What do you mean Elmo is not on TV everytime you turn it on? You just refuse to go to that channel!”

It’s a look that says, simply, “You’re an idiot, aren’t you?” And, boy, can she stop you in your tracks with it.
