Droppin’ more Names
Published November 7th, 2006 in Hollyweird, Me.Namedroppin’… it’s so trivial yet so intriguing…
Joey Buttafucco – was on our flight to Kauai for our honeymoon. We put him in the “so evil he’ll never die” category. This was a good thing since we were about to get on a 6 hour flight over the ocean. (Thanks to nonlineargirl for reminding me about this category!)
Dennis Quaid – bumped into him, literally, at the Buffalo Club after a long night of eating and drinking with coworkers. He’s short. But took the bump in stride, smiled and kept going.
Dennis Franz – saw him at a film premier and the afterparty in Westwood. He and wife were so nice, normal and genuine. So I was mortified when a friend (male) walked up and announced to everyone within a 10 foot radius – “I just pissed next to Dennis Franz.” Yeah… and he’s standing right behind you now.
Bjorn Borg – at Mojo, hanging out, tossing a few back.
Elton John, Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Rosie Perez, all sitting within two rows of me & LADaddy at a film premier. Can you guess which film?
Jay Leno – at a car show in Burbank, cruisin’ with the top down on one of his gazillion vintage cars. Very nice - he’s always ‘on’… but I guess that’s why they chose him for the show, huh?!
Bill Maher – at a friend’s party on Mulholland. He was looking for someone else’s party but after hiking up the driveway decided to stay for a while. Nice. We know he just needed some people to gush over him for an hour to feed that ego a bit
Ha.
Jeff Goldblum – this is actually LADaddy’s first star sighting after we moved to LA. The man is like 8 feet tall – we ran into him at Baja Fresh in Toluca Lake – long before there was one on every corner and in every mall.
Teri Hatcher – at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square ‘97 or ’98 – the woman needed to eat then and she still does. She was wearing shorts – her thighs are as big as my biceps.
Robbie from the Goo Goo Dolls – at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square. I dorked out on this one and started to wave… like I knew him. He smiled politely.
Travis from the Foo Fighters – also at Sherman Oaks Fashion Square – shoppin’ with his woman. That’s a good guy for ya.
Lenny Kravitz – attending a show at The Whisky. The man oozes sexuality. I love him. He spoke to my friend – told her he liked her turquoise necklace. (of course, what ELSE would he say?!)
Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes – MY FIRST EVER conversation with a celebrity so I’m going to gush a bit here. Picture it, early 90’s, I’m interning at a downtown office tower in Columbus, Ohio and am on a lunch break with friends. We’re walking past the entrance to a hotel and there he stands in all his maroon-velour-trousered, tie-dye-crocheted-sweater-ness with, like, 4 bodyguards – this was just as Shake Your Money Maker was rocketing to the top of the charts and their concerts were selling out in minutes (as the one in Columbus had). I was severely depressed that I wasn’t able to get a ticket so you can imagine my reaction when there HE was standing right in front of me. I could feel my face flushing and my knees weakening. I grab my friends arms and utter…oh my god, that’s_______ and my mind went completely blank. My dork friends didn’t recognize him and thought he was either “a welfare case” or “one of Jeff’s friends” (Jeff being my stoner -neighbor). I’m staring at him, still flushed, walking by close enough to touch him if I wanted to and he smirks at me in that ‘yeah, you know I’m a rock star and I know you want me’ kind of way and smiles and says “Hi” with a longish sort of southern slowness to it. I think I smiled or maybe replied with a HI of my own but I’m not sure. We get about 5 feet past them and THEN my friends realize who he is. We all turn in our tracks and poof! They’re gone. Ah…
OK…there’s no topping that story right now - so stay tuned for more namedroppin’

Nice list. I have a bunch of those from my days in LA. And had a good one in July when we were in town for some surgery for my one-year-old. We were staying Le Parc in West Hollywood. Some friends came to see us the night before the surgery so we hung out at the bar in the hotel (Knoll). The place was empty. As my friends left, Peter Fonda came in and, long story short, I ended up hanging out with him for a while. Very cool guy.
You and LA Daddy have very cool sites. Looking forward to reading them.
